Sexy and adventurous

night diver   Night Diver  by Elizabeth Lowell  is full of suspense and romance….two intriguing elements of any story.  The story revolves around Kate Donnelly and her family’s diving business.  Kate grew up with a family of divers and it was all she knew….until that one tragic night that sent her far from the island and the sea to a safe landlocked existence.  A lonely existence filled with only her career.  Until her brother, Larry, telephones with a desperate plea for her to come back and help save the business from bankruptcy.  She is hesitant.  What once was her life is now her greatest fear….the ocean.

She returns with the plan to stay off the boat and help her brother and grandpa.  However, as we know life does not always work out as we plan.  The business is in dire straits and there is a possibility of a thief aboard Golden Bough .  If that isn’t enough to keep her there longer…enter Holden Cameron (yes, I did keep calling him Holden Caulfield….a bit frustrating).  Holden is a former British Military diver (yes, I imagined him with an accent….it makes it oh so much more authentic)  He is there to investigate the dive at hand.  They have been diving to retrieve treasure from an ancient Pirate Ship and there are just too many pieces that are not adding up.

Holden is arrogant and rude….and smart and handsome and strong and sexy….Kate is drawn to him and vice versa.  There are several steamy scenes within this suspenseful novel….I’d take your time while reading or even rereading those sections.

Beach read….quick and sweet

beach house   This new book by Georgia Bockoven is perfect for anyone looking for a variety of stories filled with love, friendship, hardship and family.  The book is Return to the Beach House.    There are three stories that all unfold at this beautifully renovated beach house in California.  The house once belonged to Joe and Maggie….a couple bonded together by true love…awwwww…..how sweet.  Sadly, they are no longer alive, but they continue to influence the people who rent out the house.

The first story follows Alison and her 17 year-old grandson who have rented the house for a month to help them move on with their lives after losing two close family members.  It is here that they rediscover happiness, love and a new start to their lives.  We then enter into August, where four college friends have rented the house to reconnect after years of separation.  Carrie, Danielle, Bridget and Angie come to discover some of the tragedies and struggles they have all kept hidden during their absences and learn to rise above them and live anew.  Finally, we jump ahead to January where Matthew and Lindsey have arrived.  The two are busy photographers….one photographs graphic images of war while the other is an award-winning wildlife photographer.  They have been a couple for 10 years, but the distance that their careers have provided them has been too much of a strain on their relationship….will they be able to find a way to hold their love together or will they discover that not everything is forever?

A quick read….perfect for laying out by a lake with the fresh mountain air or on the sand with a salty breeze…whichever suits you best.

A true love story

widow walk   “Love is the most powerful force in the universe” is a quote from this love story by Robert Barclay called The Widow’s Walk.   In 1840, Constance is awaiting her husband’s return from a whaling boat.  She climbs to the top of the their house to peer out at the Atlantic on the widow’s walk when she slips and falls and dies.  Her husband never returns.

Fast forward 17 decades, and Garrett Montgomery…professor and architect enters the picture.  Garrett has always felt a strong draw to Seaside, the house that Constance and Adam had lived.  He has now sold his condo and bought Seaside to renovate and bring it back to its glory.  It is here that he sees Constance who has remained on the premise since her death.  No one has seen her in 17 decades.

This is where the love story begins….a love story that spans life and death and breaks all the rules.  A truly, classy love story that will melt your heart.
